Our Space, Your Gathering

Unity Center sits on open ground in the middle of Windham, thirty minutes from Portland. Most of the week, our rooms are empty. We'd rather they were full.

The Spaces

The Sanctuary — Seats 125, with a light tower and wide center and side aisles. Good acoustics, good light. Best for ceremonies, concerts, recitals, lectures, and large classes.

The Dining Hall — Our gathering room, opening onto the yard and gardens. Tables and chairs are here and available to use. Good for classes, meetings, workshops, receptions, and coffee-and-cake gatherings. There's a kitchen, residential rather than commercial — a caterer can warm, plate, and stage from it, but it isn't built for cooking a meal from scratch.

The Grounds — Lawn and gardens off the dining hall, and a meditation garden with a walking labyrinth. In warm months there's room to put up a tent and seat a crowd outside.

Also — two private dressing rooms, and a large parking lot that doesn't fill up.

What People Could Use It For

Weekly and ongoing: yoga, meditation, and movement classes. Homeschool co-ops and enrichment groups. Recovery and support groups. Book clubs, choir and ensemble rehearsals, quilting and craft circles, tutoring, scouting and youth groups.

One-time: birthday parties, baby and bridal showers, graduations, retirements, anniversaries, family reunions. Memorial services and celebrations of life. Workshops and retreats. Author talks and small concerts. Annual meetings for nonprofits, neighborhood associations, and community organizations.

Ceremonies: weddings, commitment ceremonies, vow renewals, baby blessings and namings.

If what you're planning isn't on this list, ask anyway. The answer is usually yes.

A Note on Alcohol

We don't serve or permit alcohol on the property. For some events that's a constraint — for a lot of others it's exactly the point. Recovery groups, kids' parties, family gatherings, and sober celebrations all fit here easily.

Weddings & Commitment Ceremonies

Above all else, Unity Center is about love. We're inclusive, and the ceremonies held here reflect that — interfaith, non-denominational, and built around your union rather than our tradition.

Practically: we're one of the more affordable venues in the area, there's no guest minimum, and unlike most places booked a year out, we can usually accommodate same-year dates. We don't have an on-site coordinator, so you'll bring your own planner and vendors — the space is yours to shape.

Ceremonies happen indoors in the sanctuary or outside in the gardens. For photographs, the grounds give you far more variety than most venues this size.
