Featured Speaker Spotlight: Rev. Matt Purinton
Deconstructing to See
My name is Matt Purinton and I was born and raised in Maine on an old farm in Bowdoin, where I now live. Actually already ordained in 2018 at All Faiths Seminary out of New York, I am also nearing the finish line in the next couple of years to be ordained from Unity. Have worked for 28 years at Unum Insurance Company and own a couple of old rental properties.
Have two grown sons and a house full of nieces/nephews and my younger son where I live, which I really enjoy. Love being outside puttering around the properties, especially in the fall. Hiking is another favorite past time, especially near the ocean.
Now for the questions –
I have been attending Unity Center for Spiritual Growth since 2013. I had been looking for a spiritual community for a while and was drawn by the “one God, many paths” approach here (and LeRoy’s socks).
Spiritual practice that has made the biggest difference in my life is the Course In Miracles daily lessons.
Life keeps teaching me to live in the present.
As far as book or quote for current inspiration, I would say my main inspiration I am actively using is from the Bible, 2Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.”
As far as joy outside of church, I have lots of loving, mutually supportive family and friend relationships that I enjoy putting time into.
Currently growing into the truth of how important it is to work through letting go of the persona you create for yourself so that it can be replaced with living through your Divine Nature.
I hope people will leave from my message with a sense of hope as they navigate their own path Home.
